Deluxe Revcerb Tremolo SPEED.............
« on: December 13, 2011, 07:30:55 am »
On the '77 Deluxe reverb that I'm restoring, I noticed a variant from factory standard and was wondering if you guys could chime in on the thing..........

A Fender Tremolo circuit usually runs pretty slow (I've seen them as slow as 2 oscillations per/second) on the lowest setting.  This Deluxe has an abnormally HIGH oscillation rate at the lowest setting.......appx. 4 per/second which is usually about a "3 to 4" on the knob.

I believe the tube itself does the actual oscillating, but I'm not sure if different tubes could actually determine this low threshold.......I just don't know what actually regulates the SPEED of the oscillation, and therefore what could be the determining factor in the threshold settings from 1-10 on the knob........Not only is the low threshold too fast on this one, the high is RIDICULOUSLY fast.

What say ye gentlemen ?  Is there a differing 'value' in a component that could be used to regulate the lower threshold ?

If you change almost any one of those 3 capacitors in the circuit (double it), the effect will be slower. I do that all the time. I change the 10n to a 20n.

and here's a pic...
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

This is how I did it on my Vibro Champ. I added a .03uf and made it switchable.
Some of the most amazing music in history was made with equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

I change the first .02uF to .03uF to slow it down. (But what LC said works just as good)
