Yes, I have the manual. Initially, I was thinking I was just going to recap, and be on my way. But, it has turned into much more of a restoration than I had hoped. Things like the channel balance pot is shot, a long d-shaft 3 meg pot which has been hard to find. Got that taken care of. The panel lamps are obsolete. Do I pay a lot for the bulbs, or do I change out the sockets and convert to something I know I will always be able to find? The packaged circuits, of which there are seven, are screwed up. I am having to rebuild them. They are covered in some kind of resin or something. There are several resistors that are way off that I can measure. There is a preamp plate resistors inside one of them measures zero ohms. There are many parts inside those packs that I can't directly measure without opening them up, but I am guessing there are more bad resistors that I have can't see right now. Here is a picture of one of the smaller ones that I opened up:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/10001132@N08/6738374681/in/photostreamI have gone through and replaced all the resistors and non-ceramic disc caps in the amp section (except those which are in those damn packaged circuits), I was really surprised to find how much some of those resistors had drifted. The way this thing was assembled, its going to be REALLY hard to get to some of those packaged circuits.
Any way, the bias voltage is high to start with, because the amp was designed for 117vac, I have over 122 at my house, and, as built, there is no bias voltage adjustment in the receiver . Also, there are 2 100k bias balance pots, one for each channel. One measures 94K, the other measures 160K. That makes it a little difficult to balance the channels. So, I'm going to have to replace at least one of those pots. I have not been able to find a pot that matches the existing one, a screw driver adjustment slot on both sides, so it can be adjusted from inside or outside the chassis. So, as long as I am replacing those, I just figured.........
I haven't gotten to the tuner portion yet. I guess I will eventually replace those resistors also. By the way, where does one go to get the tuner adjusted properly. I don't have the equipment to do that kind of stuff. Hopefully, I don't have to ship it somewhere.
This thing has become much more about the journey than merely the destination. Hours spent blissfully puttering.
