Some new stuff
« on: November 07, 2012, 11:32:45 am »
Some new stuff here; it's a suite of four pieces of varying style but all based on a common theme (an idea I had while reading a letter written during the Civil War). There is guitar here, despite the piano opening. I used my 18 Watt Lite II with the extra gain stage, a Tele and a Strat for the guitars.

Just in case anybody is interested.

This is the entire series of four tunes put together as I wrote them to be:

Cheers!

Wow, are you trying to get a movie deal?

That's some major stuff you did there.

LOL, well you know how it is - when you get a good idea you run with it. It's interesting how most of us react to that third part as though it's film music. That's because most people aren't familiar with the classical music that the films steal from, which is too bad. Not that I have anything against Gladiator, etc. (except that for the last ten years everybody has had to put a wailing mideast woman in their soundtracks - thanks Mr. Zimmer), but there's some great music out there that people actually play on stage from time to time...like Carmina Burana, for example.

This piece was a blast to do, and it's not over yet, although all the additions I make will be as separate pieces, not parts of the suite. Got something else I'm working on now anyway!

Glad you liked it.

Check out my strange entry into movie film type soundtracks

I love writing off beat stuff that's different

This is called The Factory

I liked all the key changes.
I was wondering of one was ever going to repeat!?
Very creative and soundtrackish.
Quiet the endeavor!
I am envious, I haven't the time to pull off something like that anymore.
Good going!

Hey, Doug, that one would go well in a John Carpenter film. I always liked the music he wrote for his movies; it's not super accomplished but it works really well for what he wants. Yours is slicker than a lot of his; I like this one a lot. I only got to write for a real film once; it was a horror movie, but when I got a rough cut to watch the film was so bad that I told them all I would do was the title sequence. I did it (never got paid OR credited even though they used it) but the film is horrible, despite the reviews you can read online. Seems like there's somebody out there who will like anything. (It was called "The Dividing Hour" if you're curious.)

Thanks, Madison. Just for the record, there aren't any key changes, unless you count tiny internal modulations. All of these are in D (roughly - the repeating C natural makes it modal sometimes, but it isn't consistent and sometimes it's a C# like you'd expect). However, there certainly are enough changes of everything else to make you think so.

EDIT: I forgot to link to this - this is REALLY film-style music. No guitars at all, though. But I think it's cool: [https://www.box.com/s/u47rb0sv6oq6c0au4ud1

Yeah. That's what I was trying to say. :icon_biggrin:
Interesting the deception of it.
