 speaker impedances affecting tone?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
one of the guitarists i tech for was asking me if he should get an 8 or 16 ohm extension cabinet for his Orange AD30TC; how would different impedance affect tone? i believe that lower impedances require more power to make the same amount of sound compared to higher impedances; is that right?

 Hi Phil!

didn't see you around her for a while, welcome back. Do you remember, we talked about a 4 x KT88 Bass amp, you got the schematic from whittele - you ever did that built? and if so how did it work out?

Cris:

PS: I don't have any answer to your Q... personally I never heard to much difference with different speaker loads...

That depends on the impedance of his existing cab. The extension speaker is in parallel with the main speaker. So the impedance is halved when you add an extension speaker. For example: If his main cab is 8 ohms, then he wants to get an 8 ohm extension cab and set his output impedance to 4 ohms.

hey ganz! i haven't worked on that amp for awhile since i moved to seattle and had to find work, but i'm getting back to the swing of things. i'm buying a bassman from the same guitarist i'm asking about the orange amp; i'm going to replace the circuit board to eliminate the huge amount of noise it has. i'm also buying parts for a headphone amp i'm building.

i'm not sure what kind of extension cab we're going to get for the orange, but just for the sake of discussion, let's say that the speakers in the combo are 8 ohms and we get either an 8 or 16 ohm cabinet. any thoughts?
