Poor Man's Leslie
« on: September 02, 2014, 08:44:59 am »
My poor man's Leslie was inspired by Timbo's recent Leslie project. It's pretty lame compared to his. But I'm having fun with it in the shop. Thought I'd share...

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

That is remarkably cool!  BRAVO!  Thanks for sharing it.  Those rifts from Badge have been some of the coolest rifts in guitar history.

Please post a sound clip.  And since I know that you know the Badge rifts ............... maybe do that?

Thanks, Jeff

Cool for a poor man!  I would have thought you would have cobbled a spinning horn out of a muffler bearing knowing you.  Those Weber Cali speakers hold together and produce a clean tone.  I have compared them to Altec and JBL speakers and they close which is great for the price.  I am sure this is adding a lot of ambiance.

Are you only using the 1 Weber speaker to play through and turn on and off the rotary?  I know you have a cab with Big Ben in it, but do you have a 12" low watt speaker that breaks up easily?  The Vox just adores them.

Steve,That turned out GREAT.
You say its a poor mans Leslie, but when you flick the switch it will size up to the best.

I am toying with an idea of having its own amp, probably SS for the weight factor ( if I build it as an onboard as there is space at the top of the cab) also I can get a 5 band EQ and this all comes as a DIY kit of about 50w.

I did not realize how many bands used this effect. Great job. :icon_biggrin:

Yea man, when you begin noticing the Leslie sound, you begin hearing it recorded on a LOT of great music.  What is strange is a lot of people who use them remove the bottom belt and only spin the horn.  I prefer it spinning myself. :icon_biggrin:
