6BM8 amp " the Quad M" amp
« on: October 05, 2022, 05:19:14 am »
I have a friend who is sorta into the overdriven Marshall tone but wants an amp at a reasonable volume for his home.  We're exploring building an amp with either ECL84's (for around 3-5 watts similar to the So-Low Watt amp) or 6BM8's for about 7 watts.

It has a sorta kinda Marshallish topology with Doug's "hot switch" and then uses a 12AX7 triode recovery stage for an active FX.  I've done this approach on several amps and have found this type of psuedo active FX loop to work quite nice and have been happy with it.  My current "the Minimalist" 6BM8 uses this type of active FX loop.

This is a DRAFT design. It's currently called the Quad M but the name is likely to change. Compare schematic to layout. IF there is a discrepancy, go with the schematic.

With respect, Tubenit
