Fender 75 Hi - Lo Switch Replacement

Looks like i might have a hard time finding the Hi-Lo switch for a 1980 Fender 75 amp i have. Any ideas where i may find one?
Just another weird amp event going on here this month.

No the switch i need is for High voltage that drops the power output from 75 watts to 15 watts. Like this.
The toggle bat on this one was smashed in and froze in place. Size as the original is my problem.
I can find DPDT switches but they are bigger than will fit with the limited front panel space i have in this amp.

What are the dimensions of the black plastic body of the switch? Length, width, height. Be accurate.

Oh no problemo John. But i don't think i am am going to find this switch. That is a problemo.
Maybe on Ebay in a year. Ya never know. I will work it out/

Well it doesn't look like a particularly special switch to me.   

How hard have you really searched the internet for a replacement?

I'd guess those damn Chinese make something close enough,
and are willing to ship it half way around the world to you for less than $3 delivered.
If you search hard enough.

That probably is going to be my only source from china. I mean it is a simple DPDT switch but i was hoping to get a vintage replacement. Probably not going to happen. You know how the front panel has a very tight space limit. Yeah i searched all over even using the original Fender part number or anything even close to it. I cant use a cheap toggle switch here in this part of the amp. It would not last and could actually be a dangerous hazard. Other amp builders have found a way and source, So must i.

I am finished with a F&T re-cap. I JUST WANT TO HEAR THE THING! And do some voltage checks and see if there is anything else going on.

That switch: is it an on-on? Like, not a on-off-on, but just a straight flip/flop between 2 positions, no center position? I know it's smashed, but wondering how it works.

Never mind, found the schem, looks like an on-on. Does have 250+ vdc on it, so I personally wouldn't go cheap on the switch. ;)


I found a few, but they're all bigger than yours.... I'm betting you looked at the same ones I did.

I'm thinking you can find something close enough.

Unless you only want an original Fender part.
Then you'll probably end up paying $25 or more with $2-$3 shipping on top of that.

I have learned that if i have to pay for it, then that's what i prefer. I have skimped on some parts in the past and have learned there is nothing like the real thing. Coca Cola for example.  Hell even that is crap anymore.  Hey i am an old and remember things the way they used to be. Have a hard time accepting things the way they are. Wont settle for second best if i don't have to.  Especially with electronic parts. Your name is on the amp you repair so i suppose i am the anal retentive amp dude.  I may drill out the rivets and see what is left inside and possibly rebuild it but i seriously doubt it. When power switches go bye,bye that's the end of the switch.

Well if you are repairing someone else's amp and they want to keep it original,
then original is what is needed because the customer is always right.

If you do like most repairmen and charge a certain % mark-up on the parts,
then you make more money on the same repair if they use the expensive original part.

I never mark up a part. They pay what i pay. I enjoy getting the job done right the first time no matter what it costs. That's the reward alone for me in repairing & restoring amps.

Most places charge a mark-up to at least cover their ordering, processing, or stocking costs.
Customers will usually accept that mark-up without complaints if you explain those costs to them.   

I definitely agree with using quality parts even if they are more expensive.
Fixing it right the 1st time is cheaper in the long run.

The perfect size! Looks at a glance to be a little bigger online before i bought it but it is a perfect replacement (in size) for the fender 75 or any other fender with a Hi-Lo switch mounted on the front panel. I need to buy a few more just in case i run across another tight fit Fender angled front panel. Chances are i will never see another 1980 Fender 75. Better safe than sorry.
