Robin Trower - Cool version of Too Rolling Stoned
« on: October 26, 2016, 08:19:49 am »
This live version is pretty cool
He does a key change when the solo section starts
And some great close up footage of his hands

Yeah, that key change has always been there, but our backing tracks didn't have it! :icon_biggrin:  The first videos were his 800's.  In the rig video he had one of his small box 50s, that's what he was playing the last time I saw him.  I like his comment, "I need that umpf!"  Haha! I'll say! My ears were ringing from just the stage volume because we were so close.  He plays LOUD!  "you need to make them sing" :icon_biggrin:

He is such a nice down to earth guy.  It was nice to meet one of my heroes and like him even more afterward.  Doug, you can start a Trower section dedicated to pictures and vidoes if you want! :worthy1:

I think that concert was Germany in 2005?

He has never sounded better, IMO
He solos slow and just milks the fretboard for really cool sounding notes

If I remember he plays 12s.  "Heavy strings and high action"  Wow....  With that finger vibrato and pull he always does, he has to have incredibly strong fingers and hands. Gotta have that umpf!!!  He is awesome! :worthy1:

Yes, but he said he tunes down a step
I think he said a step in the gear video
Maybe 1/2 step?

All his stuff is a half step down, but still!

Yeah I think that was the Rockaplast show?  It was actually recorded on his birthday and he was hugely embarrassed when the crowd started singing happy birthday to him - in a THICK German accent.  Too funny.  One of his better live videos with Davy Patteson singing.

I take that back.  One of his early recorded songs was a full step.  I think it was Long Misty Days

I saw him last year in St.Pete at Janus Landing. He didn't have the regular singer on that tour so it sorta lacked the magic flow and vocal expression. But Robin himself had all the mojo he has always had. Great guitarist. Our Hero!

I just saw a local advertisement getting the word out where Robin is coming to a nearby surf town in Dana Point Calif for the next Doheny Blues Festival in May '17. Can't wait! There's a small camp ground on the beach that's less than a mile away where we will be camping and just a quick beach cruiser bike ride away. No car traffic and parking issues plus quick and easy to descretely re-supply with the necessities or take a break  :angel :d3: :sleepy2:

Oh yeah and much needed too. The all day sunshine takes a toll and shelter at some point is mandatory especially when enjoying your fav beverage of choice. If single and there's a nearby "rest stop"? Fogettaboutit!
