During this scratch build, I asked some questions and received answers/opinions very fast—Many Thanks!!
I wanted to share the results of my build. This is a clone of a Rick Tone 19 “Cupid” amp. I wanted a small amp for my office upstairs to play and not disturb the family too much.
This was built only from the wiring schematic. I build the cabinet out of ¾” pine and using finger joints. The outside dimensions are roughly 11” x 10” x 7”. The chassis is an aluminum box, 7” x 5” x 2”. I drilled all the holes for the chassis layout. I used waterslide stickers printed on my ink jet.
My original plan was to mount the chassis on the bottom from the back. However, the interference with the speaker magnet made me rethink my cabinet layout. I mounted the chassis to the back door….not conventional but works for my situation.
The wiring is all point to point. The preamp tube is 12AT7 and the output is an EL84. Solid state rectified. The schematic did not have a bypass cap on the bias resistor. I added an optional bypass cap 25microf/50V to toggle on and off….has a great boost/gain affect when in the circuit. I used a 2watt pot to dial in the bias resistance but in the end, this really was not needed (fun to try and will use in future small builds). The speaker is a Jensen P6V.
Here is what it sounds like with a Fender Strat delux:

Thanks again for the help of this message board!
