Blues Jr. Help please/No sound
« on: March 10, 2017, 09:50:03 am »
Remind me never- never- never to put $300 worth of improvements in one of these crap PCB board amps again.  Now instead of a 400 dollar piece  of crap I have a 700 dollar piece of crap.

Sold to a friend who is a player.  He stuck the cord in the back when transporting. I warned him not to.  Broke all the power tube pin sodder joints on the PCB board.

Here is what I've done with the little knowledge I have.

OUtput transformer spitting blue sparks.  I replaced that.

AFTER THAT... I saw that the pin sodder joints were all cracked.

Re soddered them.

Fired it up and no sound.  I bang the amp and the reverb tank sounds through loud and clear.  Does that mean "hopefully" I didn't crap out the new Hammond transformer???

Any Ideas where to go from here.

I've appreciated all help in the past almost more than words can say.

Hmmm. Blue sparks? From where? Where the OT connects to the power tubes? Was there a short?

I believe pictures are going to help a lot more than your description of the problem. Power cord breaking solder joints... that raises a lot of confusion/questions...

Hoffman sells a nice turret board with conversion instructions if you are considering replacing that pcb.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

first, check your voltages at power and preamp tubes : no voltage no sound.
Don't miss the Woodstock experience : ''FORTY YEARS AFTER'' at Club Soda,  in Montreal, august the 17th and 18th and october the 27th. Fifteen musicians onstage.  AWESOME !
P.S.: call me Alvin.

Don't feel alone.  I think a large percentage of intermediate builders like myself has spent way too much to admit on Blues Junior Amps.
