Fender Blackface Footswitchable Bright Switch

Hello,

I've built a Princeton Reverb clone and added a bright switch (as found in a Deluxe, Super, Twin etc). I like it very much with the bright switch on but it doesn't interract well with the fuzzes, and I think about making it footswitchable.

Two shielded wires(to avoid noise) in parallel with the toggle switch connect to an insulated jack (so that nothing is connected to ground) and then I run a cable to a footswitch. Obviously the footswitch will only work when the toggle is off, but that's not the case.

Do you think I'm going to have issues with that thing? Issues about unwanted noise etc. I don't want that.. Should I use a stereo cable going to the footswitch and a stereo jack so that I have the shield of the cable grounded to avoid noises or will a mono work too? Or is the whole thing just a but idea.. I don't mind pushing an extra button when running my fuzzes and still have those nice sparkling cleans when I need them and I also don't mind making holes to my chasis just for experimentation.. but it's time consuming, so if it's really a bad idea, I won't do it at all..

I would use a shielded twisted pair cable and connect the shield to chassis. I would use a TRS jack and plug (stereo). I also think this idea is asking for trouble, ie, picking up noise.

A more involved but better solution would be to use a relay or Vactrol optocoupler, keeping the sensitive circuit inside the amp and just running the dc control to the footswitch.

I suggest experimenting without drilling holes to see what you think. I don't think either of these ideas is a worthwhile project. If you like the bright switch then consider just using a volume control with a push/pull switch on it and drill no holes.

I already have a toggle switch so no need for a push/pull pot. I'll experiment with it but I think it doesn't really worth a more complex solution. And after all I might just have to use it with the bright switch off when I'm playing live.

The usual Fender Bright Switch is one of the worst places to run long wires.

If I "had" to stomp it, I'd use some form of relay so the precious high-impedance signal did not run far.
