DIYLC is coded in Java and so it will work on all operating systems that have Java installed

Do not try and install Java from a browser window
See my post further down this page on Java install tips


You do not have to install DIYLC if you do not want to
You can download a .zip file and just start the program by double clicking on the .exe file in the un-zipped folder

Installing the program lets you click on a .diy file and it will open DIYLC program automatically
So it creates file associations if you install it
It's a pretty small program and does not seem to be too bulky or intrusive, so I always use the install download.

The DIYLC config file holds many of the objects you save, like variants and Building blocks

Look in your documents for the .diylc folder. under your user name
The link to mine in windows 7 pro is this
C:\Users\DLH\.diylc

The DIYLC config file is named config.xml

There is also a logs folder and a logs file is created every time you start DIYLC
The older logs will automatically be deleted by DIYLC after about a week

Windows XP - Person reports that they had to download an older version of Java and then DIYLC ran fine


Misc MAC info

I'm trying to download DIYLC on my mac.
after extracting from zip, it says the package is damaged and can't be opened.
I've tried several times. Is there an issue with the mac version?
Try running this in the terminal. sudo spctl --master-disable

Info from Github on OSX installs
OSX says that DIYLC is damaged and cannot start (the absolute greatest hit)It is definitely not damaged, do not give up.
There's a thing in OSX called Gatekeeper that blocks 3rd party apps by default and as a result they appear to be damaged.
It's handled very unfortunately, but it is what it is.
To fix the issue, you just need to allow 3rd party apps.
Different versions of OSX handle this differently and I've seen many different ways to do it, but this should be a good starting point

Do not try and install Java from a browser window
Chrome will not even let you do it
Look at the screen shot below about this


Go to the Java download page and download the Java version you want to install
Download the install file and install Java from your computer

In Windows, there is a control panel applet if you have Java installed
You can look at the current version you have installed and modify Java

If your browser tries to open a file instead of down loading it, right click on the file link and choose "Save as"

Browsers may call it different things, but look for something like "Save As"

When installing DIYLC, you may run into a windows pop up asking if you really want to install this 3rd party software.

You have to click on the more info link to get a second pop up

You can then click on the Run Anyway button to continue the install
