Speaker combos
« on: April 03, 2019, 10:59:44 am »
Ello! I'm getting ready to finish a speaker cab build and was doing a lot of consideration. I've always loved the punchy sound of a Super Reverb with 4x10's. I was thinking of something to aquire that sound then add a second 12" to cover the low end. Have any of you done mixed speaker cabs similar to this with good outcome? It doesn't necessarily have to be 1 10 and 1 12. I haven't cut the holes yet. I just want to cover that punchiness and add some low end. Recommendations? Thanksssss!

P.S. I don't want crap speakers but I'm not looking to spend $300 per speaker either. Thanks...again

I did a cab w/ 2X 10's & 2X 12's.  Celestion G-10 Vintage & Celestion V12-80 Silver Bells.  Sounds great; enabled me to build a scaled down 4X box same width as my Ampeg V4.  These speakers were acquired at a good discount on eBay or at Avatar

Also put 2X Celestion 10" Bulldogs under my Hotrod Deluxe with a 12" Celestion Greenback.  Also good discounts at Avatar.

Anyway, I think you have a good concept.  Lot's of great choices.

Ok. Thanks! I may go with 1 10 and 1 12. I had a blues deville 4x10 too that I loved. I always wondered what a couple of 12s would sound like with them. Thanks!

Ha. I actually wrote that eminence speaker down last night as an option. I think Soldano used them in their cabs possibly.  I listened to the Eminence tone guide clips for about 2 hours last night. I was looking at a Warehouse speaker for a 10". Anybody have experience with warehouse? https://wgsusa.com/g10cs

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Awesome! Thanks Sluckey!  I think I'm about decided on the 12". I really like the Blackback M series. I've honestly never heard of them. If everyone's sound clips was as good as theirs deciding would be a lot easier. I'm going to give it another day or two but I think I'm going to get it. Thanks!
