Little Screamer
« on: July 30, 2019, 12:02:31 pm »
Here's a recycling project for all you cheapos out there.
Found the donor on the curb with a broken power switch. Patched in a switch and still no luck so instead of wasting anymore time I thought to myself, "WwSd?"

I needed a little practice cube so I could brush up on my VH riffs on the couch.
The name was inspired by the VH song Little Dreamer, which I thought was apropos.

I used the Bogner Ecstasy Red channel into an SE 6K6GT with a 300V'ish B+ and a Champ OT.
It sounds pretty good through a 1x12 cab but less than impressive through the 6.5"er in the combo cab.
It's all better than sitting in a landfill.

I'll post more when I have more time, but I wanted to put this up to see if there was any interest and because I have not posted any builds in a long time. This was fun, easy and I was able to use some stuff that was just laying around. The only part I had to order was the PT due to the need for a super small size.
I bought 2, so I'm also taking requests. I already harvested the next donor.

Sounds like fun!

A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Nice Job!
I have only done this once!  Tubed up a SS Crate and copied a Swart Atomic Space whatever which is almost a Champ with reverb.  Added a 10" Warehouse Green Beret.  The cabinet was actually Birch Plywood.
Great way to get one cheap and get all your guitar buddies bringing you crap from the landfill! :l2:
Gotta like Overdrive driving a easily over-driven pentode.  Still cannot sound like Eddie!

Yeah, it can be a bit much, and yeah, neither me or it truly sounds like Eddie, but it's good enough for some couch tapping!

I'm hoping that by posting the pics I will force myself to finish the schematic and get it up. Right now it looks like a 3rd grade science project plan.

used the Bogner Ecstasy Red channel
I've stole from Bogner for my last 2 builds, really like the tone circuits used throughout all the channels.
Glad you now have something to do with your hands while couchin  :icon_biggrin:

Well now you just showin off, I added an attenuator :headbang:
This is really an Effect or does it really take 6x preamp to output tubes.  You do need an amp that will talk back to do the Stanley Jordan thing.
It really is a cool thing.

Yeah, I think he nailed the 80s/90s hard rock tone with that preamp. Now all I have to do is find time to sit on the couch.

Like you've said before, I don't even have to use my right hand.

I liked the Herzog project so much that I was looking for another spot to use it and this felt like it was gonna make a very cool distortion pedal...it did!

I have run the line out into a delay that allows for input and output volume adjustment and then into my SE power amp. That really lights it up!
The Dark Knight will be around anytime now to demand a sound clip. Maybe he'll get lucky this time.

SG, what a cool project!  Well done young man!  I do expect a soundclip and you know what it could probably recreate very well?  A little Angus!  A little Rosie!  Come on!  I want to hear you rock on!

Bogner was not on my radar.  Checked them out.  Great sounding amps.  Great diy build!
