So with nothing to significantly fill my time I decided to get into the DJ, KJ, Sound Reinforcement business. Purchased a Mackie Pro12FX-V2 mixer, Alto 15 + Horn, powered speakers, speaker stands, mic cables. I've used it twice now. The first was in a start up Karaoke opportunity that will continue. The second time was last night when I walked through the door of a club I got the KJ started in and the band that was playing asked me if I could bring my PA. They had to be set up in an hour and start playing and they left critical pieces of their setup in Portland, 250 miles away.
Sure, I can do that. Round trip to pick up the gear, all hands on deck got me back just under an hour later with the Rig. Set up in 30 minutes during which the Horn section, yeah, it was a Dixie New Orleans style band for an after Halloween Party, the Horn section warmed up and entertained the growing crowd.
I was quite surprised at how the Old School AKG mics picked up the band instrument background when the singer or horn players weren't dominating the feed. And amazingly, only two, hardly noticeable feedback events that I quickly cut without cutting everything.
Here's what I'm dealing with. Think I need a Snake. These cables get all turned up and twisted when I either deploy them or roll them up. What sort of advice on cable management and overall, Sound Reinforcement do you guys have. I'll tell you how I'm going to deal with the Roadie stuff- Got pretty well comped so I just paid some young, lean dude $20 to load everything at the end. Daughters packed it out of the SUV this morning while I slept in, so I think I've got that part figured out.
