Which 2204 should I build?
« on: August 07, 2021, 09:31:41 pm »
On the heels of a successful 6G16 Mojo kit build I want to try a 2204.  I’m looking at a kit again, maybe from Mojo or CeriaTone, or ???   Any recommendations on a good kit or plan?

I could possibly just source everything myself and wing it but am leaning toward a kit for convenience.  Also saw that another member is currently fighting some hum in his 2204.  A kit with a good layout and chassis arrangement should help avoid those problems.

I had a good experience with a Ceriatone kit this year. Notice in the layout that it includes bias probe points, whereas the Mojo kit appears not to. Ceriatone doesn't provide a schematic though, if you feel you need one tailored to the kit.

I think having a schematic is very important for building an amp kit. That is if you care to know what you're doing and want to be able to fix it if it doesn't work.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Agreed. If you're sure the kit you're getting is a stock 2204 circuit (and thus matches available schematics), then no problem, but otherwise it becomes a big issue.

Wow, the Mojo design de-energises the bias supply in standby!
They seem to have an absolute doofus drawing their stuff up :BangHead:

Good info. Thanks.  I'm thinking the Ceriatone may be the way to go.

Only on the layout. The schematic got it right. Seems like the more mojo documents I look at, the more inconsistency and errors are revealed.
