100W Bass Amp
« on: December 10, 2020, 12:37:39 pm »
Hi I want to build a 100w bass amplifier but I have not seen any 100w only 50w plexi as I can do to mount a 100w.
Thank you all.

Look in the schematics library. There are several Fender and Marshall 100W bass amps choices.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I don't think that a cathode follower biased way off center is a very good idea in a bass amp.  I always tried to minimize distortion in my bass preamps and finally just eliminated them altogether.  I wound up going straight into a rack mounted compressor/limiter to a pair of Crown DC300A's and 4 JBL K140's.  It moves some air.

I was always quite happy with my Fender Bassman 100.  It was a mid 1970s master volume silverface amp head.  It was clean until you really pushed it.  I think Marshall made several 100 watt bass heads, but I never got the chance to use one.  From looking at the schematic, I got the impression that the Marshall preamp limited the low frequency response a bit more than the Fender preamp.
Also, Ampeg made a couple of really good 100 watt bass amp heads.

I use an Ampeg V4 that I tricked out to be a bit closer to a V4B.  Sounds unreal into a Portaflex clone I built.  There are schematics for such. The other bass amp I've built is an AA165 with two extra 6L6s in parallel.  Sounds great.
