I'm starting on my first Hoffman build - I've ordered the parts for an AB763 single channel that I'll be running into a pair of 6V6s. I'm still debating between 1x 12", 1 x10", or a pair of Warehouse 10" Veteran speakers. I play blues, rock and progressive country with a Partscaster Tele, '73 Strat (with Schecter PUs), and a '77 Ibanez LP copy.
Back in the 70's I was a guitar-playing amateur electronics technician with a job at a small electronics wholesaler (Hurley's) that supplied TV repair shops. One of my customers was an old-time jazz guy who also built amps & pickups, and he started me on a build of my own PP 6L6 amp using the innards of an Altec PA I picked up for a song. Not having the resources or the EE know-how that we have at our fingertips today, I followed the schematic faithfully, but it was plagued with hums and some odd tonal behavior. I ended up getting a used silverface Super Reverb (it was a '68, but I was bummed that I couldn't afford a Pre-CBS!

).
Years later, still playing guitar, I have a collection of vintage simple amps (but still nagged by the memory of how little I sold the Super for in '79)! I'm retired after a career in chemistry, finally have time to tune up and repair my old amps, and stumbled onto this site. The thought of building a AB763 with the old non-opto tremolo circuit just wouldn't let me go, so I finally popped for the parts, and am looking forward to having an amp in a few months that will hold it's own in jam sessions with my old buddies. I've gotten great ideas and entertainment from reading the forum so far, and looking forward to participating. Just be nice - I'm working on recovering my tube electronic know-how, and my college TV repair shop job diagnostics were all about TV and radio, so straight audio amp design is new for me. I'm studying with Uncle Doug's channel, so I hope to be growing in knowledge (hopefully with everyone's help and patience!

Thanks!
