Converting volume pedal to wah wah
« on: January 12, 2022, 04:39:30 pm »
Hey guys, I have notice that the mechanics of the volume pedal only spin the pot about 1/4 of a turn, a pot total spin is about 3/4 of a turn, are there any tricks to increase the turning range to at least 1/2 in the pedal mechanism ?

Theory is when everyone knows everything but nothing works, practice is when stuff works but nobody knows why !!!

A rack and pinion (probably). You decide how.

A bus stops at a bus station. A train stops at a train station. On my desk, I have a work station.

… I have notice that the mechanics of the volume pedal only spin the pot about 1/4 of a turn, a pot total spin is about 3/4 of a turn …
That pot will have a special custom pot, probably one whose electrical range aligns with the available mechanical rotation.
I suppose it’s a lot cheaper to make them like that.
But when the pot fails, a replacement pot may be little cheaper than a new pedal.
So probably the pedal is no good for repurposing as a wah, as they require pretty much the full pot range.
But there’s plenty of applications where a foot pedal control of a variable resistance may be useful, eg gain control.
