De-soldering
« on: June 04, 2023, 08:07:50 pm »
Just a heads up. I was browsing around our new Harbor Freight the other day and stumbled across a pretty good deal. 3 solder suckers and 2 solder wicks in a pack for $12 Tried one of the suckers tonight. They cock easily and the button releases quite smoothly. better than the all plastic ones IMHO. and you don't have to wait a week for them to get here! LOL!
Solid state has no soul........

I have a couple of that style. Never use them anymore. Give us a report after it gets plugged.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

I have a metal one -- an Engineer SS-02.   The syringe mechanism is fantastic, but it relies on a short length of silicone tubing to actually suck the solder.  The tubing does get clogged, and you have to preemptively clear it.   The syringe does not get much solder inside, but if it does, it is easy to clean.

So, is there another one that works better?   I'm all ears. . .

You can buy yards of silicone tubing on Amazon. Probably any size; I've had 2mm and 3/4".

If you want to try to lube the tube so the solder sticks less: the old-time trick for leading auto body panels dents uses tallow as a no-stick.
