Hey I ran across an PRB1000S from a guy that cleans out storage units. Brought it up on the auto transformer and current bulb and it does work a bit. Top channels work with low output, volume control is not working at all. Vibrato channels not working at all.

I have been told that this might be "inspired" by fender amplifier circuits (AB763). I have a schematic for a P1000S but haven't seen one for PRB1000S. I assume maybe the "RB" is reverb or maybe bass?

Inspection shows it is missing two tubes (assuming 6L6 to match the other two). There is a hole where maybe a can cap was before?

I am going to try to get a power cord, couple of tubes, replace the caps where i can read the values, clean the pots, inputs, general clean up etc. Not sure if i am going to be smart enough to fix the vibrato stuff though.  :icon_biggrin:

Like you said, a big clean up would be a good start. Apparently your transformers must be good, it it made some sound. I would want to know if they installed some replacement filter caps on terminal strips for the missing can cap? To find a good schematic would be great. Looks like they were kind of copying those old Kustom amps. I have an amp with rusty transformers like that  I got years ago and I rubbed in a small amount of WD40 on the surface and it stopped the rust from continuing.

Yeah i looked a bit last night in to what to do with transformers that are rusting. I was thinking maybe some POR15 or high temp engine paint. There is a mercury magnetics article about it that says leave them alone or they could be sent in for varnish.

When on my amp with rusty transformer, I was going to sand and repaint but I was advised against it. I was told those lamentations in the center could be damaged pretty easy and was best not to do that. That's it in the 1482. So MM
said varnish at their house:>)

Considering that this is a 4 power tube amplifier and you only have 2 power tubes in it, you should put the tubes in the middle 2 sockets.  It's very likely that the power tubes are tied together like a Fender, the 2 tubes on 1 side are one 1 side of the push pull transformer, and the other tubes are on the other side of the push pull.  If you have one power tube in each of the middle sockets, you should have one on each side of the transformer and it will work more or less properly.  The load impedance will be wrong because it's made for 4 tubes, but that will just make it distort more through the normal speaker load.  That was an old trick with Fender twins and Showmans, take out the outer 2 power tubes, or the inner 2 power tubes, the amp puts out less power and distorts more easily.
Are you missing any preamp tubes?

I have a schematic for a Plush 1060 amp, but that's all I have.  I may have posted it on here a couple of years ago when I was repairing it.  A search on here should find that post.

Good idea. Thanks.
