Couldn’t get a response in cabinets
« on: July 19, 2024, 06:54:41 am »
* Sorry all. I posted this several days ago and got no responses. I’d like to try to wire this up today, and I could really use some input. Thanks so much to anyone reading this!!!*

Hello all!

I am modifying an old 4x10 to be a test bed for a plethora of 10” speakers I have. The cab in question will have 5 jacks and two switches. The four speakers will be wired to their individual jacks. Separate pairs will be wired to an on/off switch, and the switches will then be wired to what I’m calling a “unity” jack. Once plugged into the unity jack you can use the whole cab, or select an individual pair by switching one pair off. I’m attaching my poorly drawn proposed schematic for evaluation. Please let me know if this is making sense, or I’m off my rocker!!!

Thanks all,

NR

What would be cool is if the pic wasn't rotated right when enlarged..  have no idea why that happens.

So you have two slider switches  to cut off one pair..  or use all 4 at the same time each two per side in parallel at 8 ohms  and then the two sides in series at 16 ohms

Looks like it would work to me..    what switches are you using?

Maybe I’m misunderstanding how your switches work, but it looks like all of the speakers are always connected to all of the jacks…

I’ve got some big 120v 30a bad boys I was thinking of using. They’re pretty big, so I’d have to build a recessed panel for them. Not sure how that’s going to go yet.

So, yes, the individual speakers would be connected to each one of their individual jacks, then connected to the “unity” jack via the switches. That’s the idea anyway.

The way he has drawn the switches is like slide switches    if you slide switch contacts to the other side it will disconnect one of the leads to two of the speakers.. Same for other two on the other side.

I guess he is not familiar with common toggle switch representative drawing.

gumby   I used toggle switches on a 2x12 speaker can one time and components of the switch vibrate to the sound in the cabinet and it drove me crazy.  Maybe you will get lucky and that won't happen.
