Piping - or cord - or whatever its called
« on: February 04, 2009, 11:32:40 am »
I am talking about the little gold cord that gets glued into the front of marshalls.  Not the tadpole plastic piping that gets stapled onto the wood on edges of baffles and face pieces.

(1)  Where do I get this stuff?  I ordered what I thought was the stuff from mojo, but it wasn't the nice little gold cord at all.  It was gold, but inside a plastic tube.  Way too big.

(2)  How do I hold the stuff in?  I presume I cut a slot with the table saw, maybe a 1/4" deep, apply tolex, fold it into the slot, then shove this gold cord stuff in.  But what kind of glue will work with the least amount of mess?

thanks for the help.

The guy a silvatone has some nice info:  http://www.silvatone.bravepages.com/18%20Watt%20Lite%20II/Build.htm   he makes it a 1/8" x 1/8" channel, then tucks in the tolex with a screen installer.  Doesn't say what material he uses for the string, or how it is glued in.

Part number S-GP002 is the real Marshal stuff.  I have also bought some from Weber, but it is not anywhere near as nice.  (Much less expensive, though).

Hey thanks!  Any idea how to glue that stuff in?

Well, on the amps I've used it on, I just put it in a slot which was narrow enough that it fit tightly, and then stapled the ends on the inside of the cabinet.  I'm pretty sure that is how it is supposed to be done, but I'm no expert on upholstery.
