Got a '62 Bandmaster here, one of the filter caps is shorted. These are Atoms, dated 1996. They are 20/500's. This amp runs at about 475 plate volts, and on standy, voltages exceed 535.

Will the big 20/600 Atoms fit into the doghouse? Any other solutions?

It's because there is no load on the power supply so the caps just keep peak detecting. Fix this by making sure the standby switch is connected BEFORE the filter caps so that all the caps are switched off. This gives less pop noise going into standby too.
You could add a bleeder resistor across the caps but moving the switch is better. On most Fenders this involves moving a red wire to another eyelet on the board to reconnect the caps to the other side of the switch. Then the 500V caps will work fine.

The reason I do not carry 20/600v spragues is because they are so huge, they will not fit under a Fender cap cap.

Thanks Doug...I ordered one of the 600v Atoms from Mouser just to have a look at it!

I've decided to use 2 100uf/350v caps in series. Sounds like the right solution

 another question along these lines...

i need to replace a multisection cap that has 4 x 20 uF rated @ 525V and one 20 uF section @ 450V.

i've seen the JJ 40/20/20/20 @ 500V cap Doug carries, but i'm wondering if that's ok, even tho its only rated for 500V?

it would be great to stick with multi-section caps, since the individual 600V spragues, are like Doug said, frickin' huge (1" dia X 3.875" length). if the JJ cap won't work, does anyone know of any suggestions otherwise?

thanks in advance for any help.
