teles are great rock guitars

except the guy playing it is pretty sloppy.  Recorded this afternoon with the recycled parts amp and my MIM 50's tele, VVR dialed up to about 75%, so it was pretty loud in the room...rough mix.

When my son  made the descision he wanted a tele when I made good on my promise made to him when I gave him his first guitar, "I'll get you any guitar you want so long as you can play 3 songs front to back."

I started listening harder to tele's. then I heard one played thru a Mission 5E3 on you tube. I think they have a wonderfully distinctive sound, but thru a tube amp, especialy a cathode biased amp, WOW!

That got me hooked building amps.

I think you really have a winning combo with that pile -O- parts amp and you geetar!

I love that no frills rock n roll grit  you got going. like a cheezeburger and fries, you know whats yer gonna git and its gonna be good :)

Really grinds out the tone on that tune!  Ambitious song to play on, I would think. Good job ....... nice tone. I didn't hear sloppy playing .............

Stingray65, it's a SM57 plugged into m-audio interface close mic'd on the speaker.

I started out really wanting to nail all the signature parts.  I had been playing the opening riff for awhile, but never got around to trying to learn a "close enough" translation of the sax solo or those really cool wah-wah arpeggios Rick Derringer did right after the drum solo.  I had every intention of trying to learn those, but with a day off (furlough) and no one home, I just started recording.

tubenit, I want to do something next with slide.  I don't even own one.  Do you use glass?  Metal?  Ceramic?  I sure like your tone on the tune you posted.

Yes to several of each/all of those. I probably use brass, porcelain, chromed and then glass in that order of most used.

This one is my favorite in that it is the easiest to use for me. I have less string buzz and more uniform pressure with this one. Unfortunately, I play slide lead in standard tuning & I play pretty sloppy but I have funs with it. The flared end makes a big difference for me in ease.

LOL, that is awesome.  You really make that Tele beg for mercy on the solo.

I think Teles are really versatile guitars, especially for touch players.

Very nice.
You did a great job with the panning tricks toward the end.
Honestly, my Strat has been seeing less and less use and the Tele and LP get much more action in the last year or two.
I remember reading the cats in UK and Europe consider Teles THE real rock guitar....I can dig it.

 Wow that rocked. I always wanted to do that tune, I was messing with a patch on my v-amp pro one time and fooling around with the opening riff and knew it would make a cool guitar tune. You confirmed my suspicion and did it better than I could ever have imagined. Great job!

Thanks for the kind comments, gents. 

As an observation, I find that the lower-dialed VVR settings on other songs I recorded with this amp produced a larger guitar sound than on this tune where I cranked the amp louder.  Seems to sort of confirm the "champ-makes-a-bigger-recorded-sound" theory as opposed to the 50w or 100w marshall in the studio? 

Conversely, I have to say on the other tunes I did with the HoSo type amps w/o VVR, those tracks were recorded actually just pretty loud into the mic with the preamp AND poweramp doing their thang, but they all have that big amp sound.  Hats off the Geezer, tubenit, Heinz, et al., for collaborating on such a kickass design.  Build it - you won't be disappointed.

Anyway, recording with a microphone is just such a crapshoot, I guess I'll never figure out what happens until hearing the playback...but I'm having fun nonetheless.
