Two of My Builds in a Purple Haze
« on: September 07, 2010, 08:48:33 am »
I had a great experience this past weekend.  I had a reunion gig with a band I hadn't played with in 20 years.  Our last gig was June, 1990.  It was a blast!

About a month ago our other guitar player had to cancel, so I scrambled to get my 17 year old nephew on board to fill the second guitar spot.

My nephew is the kid playing the Les Paul, I'm playing the Gretsch.  He was playing thru an EL34 tweed champ I built him for Christmas a couple years back.  I'm playing thru a... well, I dunno what to call it - Parallel V1 -> FMV stack -> Cathodyne PI -> 2xEL84.

The buzzing during the silence is his darn P-90s.

Anyway, I'm pretty proud of my nephew, so I thought I'd share this video of one of the covers we did where he sang as well as he and I splitting the lead. Purple Haze:

Awesome.  The kid is good and his champ works perfectly.

I noticed you were starting an AC/DC tune too.  :)

Sorry Doug,  I guess you have to be logged into facebook, I didn't think that was going to be the case.  I don't have access to the video file, it was posted by someone else.

Bassmanster - which AC/DC tune did you think I was starting?  I'm just curious.  I was starting an original tune of ours called "Run".

You guys were getting into it & looked like you were having alot of fun. I'd say your nephew is a very good 17 yr old guitarist.  Sure sounded like the amps had enough volume for the gig which surprised me when you stated his amp was more like a Champ.

With respect, Tubenit

Thanks tubenit.  Both amps were miked, so most of what you're hearing is FOH.  Neither one of us needed any guitar in the monitors, so they were plenty loud enough for us to hear on stage.
