Marshall - Drake Transformers with Solder tabs.
« on: January 06, 2011, 09:34:50 am »
I got my self a 1970 JMP50 about a year ago and it came with a power transformer with tabs on it that you solder wires to, instead of having the wires come out from inside the transformer itself.  My question is, how can I know if it's original or not?  I took it to a great tech by me in Manhattan and he fixed it up and removed all the "mods" that the previous owner had done, it's got 99% of all the original caps, and resistors (which all measure within 1%, which I think is amazing!) and he said he thought it was the original Power Transformer.   it's code is (model #1202-118)  so can anybody help me identify?

The original 1202-118 used tabs, and so do the numerous repros floating around...

I'm not sure it's a repro, I'm pretty sure it's not, it looks pretty old, and it's definitely a Drake, but I don't know how to tell the reissue Drakes from the originals.  It's also a UK model.

I guess that the people at Metroamp or Vintage Amp fora will be able to help you.

FYL's reply tells you that the number is the correct number, what exactly is your concern? I don't know if the repo's use the same code ....but I kind of doubt it......If you are sure it is an old Drake and it is the correct number........I personally wouldn't be concerned.....

Because they live by Marshall amps and know every detail of original components...
