Power up after long sleep

  I wasn't sure what heading to post this under....  I have a Fender Concert. Built around 1983. The one that they call the Rivera period.  I have heard many different opinions on this subject and am looking for more. This amp has not been started in over 15 years. Some people say that I can just plug it in and power it up at line voltage other say no.  I do have a variac. What say you ? ? ?

If you haven't a Variac you can use a transformer (or an autotransformer) to give the amp 1/2 the usual voltage for some time (1/2 an our at least)

at the same time use a lamp limiter

if all is OK use only the lamp limiter
