V1 Split Cathode vs Shared
« on: September 15, 2012, 09:06:25 am »
Question day again! What is your prefered V1 preamp tubes cathode arraingement?
I see a fair share of amps using a shared cathode in the V1 position

I have tried a shared cathode in the V1 position in Marshall amps and it really does not do a lot for me as far as the tone goes.
It sounds a bit muddy and undefined to me. I prefer a split cathode arraingment allowing for a more interactive mix between the V1A & V1B preamp tubes bias. What are some of your results and opinions?
