Princeton Reverb
« on: October 07, 2012, 08:53:23 am »
I picked up a 1977 Princeton Reverb this week. It is the AA1164 circuit and is identical to the blackface years. It does not have the volume boost pot. It also has all the original Fender branded tubes. The circuit was vigin minus a 4.7k PS resistor someone put in it to boost the B+. I have removed it and put the original 18k value back in place. I say it sounds much nicer

Nice Acquisition!

The AA1164 is one of my favourite Fender circuits/amps

A SF Princeton Reverb pushed by a Boss Turbo Overdrive into a Marshall 4x10 was my favorite recording rig for several years. Great little amps.
Some of the most amazing music in history was made with equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

Yeah i got it online. I cleaned it up a bit and it looks much better. I put a pair of 1959 RCA NOS 6V6GT tubes in it. Nice as it gets

I find it hard to believe that the grill cloth itself survived completly intact after all these years. The person i got it from said they had just aquired it from a one owner individual.  Must have been true
