Playing with Load
« on: January 31, 2013, 01:40:00 pm »
I kinda confused myself and you guys on my last post by bringing up a different topic in that post instead of switching that train of thought to a new topic so I'll start a new thread with this question.

I have a EL84 SE amp that uses a 7.5K load @ ~360V B+
The OT has 4,8, and 16 ohm taps.
I'm starting to see load isn't as critical as I once thought and want to experiment with this amp to see how the EL84 sounds with different loads?
What is a safe range to experiment with without doing damage? I can get from 1.875K to 30K.

If I plug a 16 ohm load into the 4 ohm tap I'll get a 30K ohm load
16ohm into 8tap = 15K
16ohm into 16tap = 7.5K
2.66(3 8s parallel)ohm into 4tap = 4.99K
4ohm into 8tap = 3.75K
4ohm into 16tap = 1.87K

Thanks
Jeff
