component ID help?
« on: June 25, 2013, 07:50:55 am »
Got a box 'o junk, and among many other things were these. I can't figure out what the 1 on top is.
Second one down is some sort of lamp?
And the silver thing is?

Second photo (img430) is the rest of the sort-of unusual stuff I found, just different types of resistors mostly, a different kind of fuse and cap too.

Top is probably a small signal diode.

Next is a neon lamp bulb, probably NE2. Commonly used for 120V indicator lamps, indicating fuse holders, Fender tremolo roach. Needs a series limiting resistor, typically 100K to 220K if used across 120VAC.

The silver thing looks like a thermal protection device (switch or fuse) that is commonly found in small high current appliances that have a heating element, ie, cheap coffee pot, hair/blow dryer, curling iron, etc. Usually have stiff, heavy leads.

The green thing looks like a cheap, low voltage capacitor.

Any writing on these devices would be a good clue.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Yep, it is. It got in the pic by mistake. It was just those 3 items that were bugging me.

The rest are mostly all resistors, there is a (I think) pigtail fuse that says 2V4, 145A. The 6th down is a resistor, around 10K. Guess it mounts in a PC. The 2 near the bottom that look like caps are also resistors.

I had fun digging through the box and sorting stuff out. Musta been 100+ cc resistors (unused), a big relay with exposed coil, and a new'ish transformer, pretty heavy. Plus lots of "filler".
