Glue for Voice Coil Backing plate to Magnet
« on: January 09, 2014, 09:51:54 am »
I have 3 speakers at home (Celestion G-12 V30 & 2 G12K 100's) that the metal backing plate on the very back of the speaker has moved and pinched the voice coil to the voice coil gap or what was the gap.  I have made myself an alignment tool to center the voice coil gap but was wondering what type of glue to use to bond the 2 back together so it does not move again the surfaces are the backing plate with the center lug for the voice coil which is metal and the other is the magnet material attached to the basket frame.  My 1st guess is a micro film of a silicone type but it have to be pinched in between the 2 and flow out to nothing so the 2 seat flush with each other.  What was used at the factory appears to be a liquid type maybe some form of loc tight.  But that glue dry's very brittle and I think that is why they move if jarred.  These speakers do not have locate screws or pins in the backing plate like the old style ones do.
Suggestions?  I will post some pic's tonight.

I forgot to take pic's before I put the backing plate back on.  I used a bearing and sleeve retainer that a friend who owns an automotive machine shop got for me.  Have about 20hrs on that speaker now with no issues.
