input jack resistor
« on: January 15, 2014, 09:44:04 am »
Need to put an input jack on a Super reverb sand was wondering if anyone has a preference on carbon or metal for the 1 meg. I have some metal film i meg's and was going to use this unless anyone had another thought. I don't think it would make a sound difference at this stage, but who knows?

Metal film resistors are usually considered to be the quietest of the common resistor types (carbon comp, carbon film, metal oxide, metal film), and quiet is especially important at the front of an amp. I have used a metal film resistor in that position in a princeton reverb and was pleased with the results. In a grid-leak position like that, there is really no sonic advantage to using a carbon comp resistor.
