Gibson GA25RVT conversion
« on: November 14, 2014, 08:31:28 am »
Hi there!

I friend of mine have this old Gibson amp. Lot of problems with noises, reverb transformer dead and he really don´t like the "too clean" sound.
Is a really hard to work amp. I think you call "spaghetti wiring". Anyway, i decided to take all out and rebuilt it from cero.

I attached the original schemo (really similar to the GA35RVT you have been talking about last weeks) and the new  schematic i´m gonna try.

Some values like coupling caps and power rail resistors are just theorical and i´m sure i have to tweak them when amp is finish.
I´m looking for any safety advice or any other idea about doing things in a different way.

Right now, im gonna keep the 7591 as power tubes cause i already have them in the amp and the are almost new JJ. When those tubes die, i think im gonna try to re-wire to 6L6, as PRR said in the GA35RVT topic.

Thanks in advance!

** Sure someone is gonna say something about the weird tone controls, but i wanna use the stuff i already have into the amp, and anyway, those tone controls aren´t useful below 12:00 o`clock with the classical 1M pot.

Your schematic looks OK to me. I would build on a turret board because that makes it easy to change components if necessary. True point to point wiring (spaghetti wiring) is more difficult to change components.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thank Sluckey!

That baby already have two small boards, but in previous works someone make a really weird wiring leaving some areas and components bypassed and using wherever he found to attach components.

I going to use them in the right way. I´m working in layout (hand-draw, sorry) and i´ll post it as soon as possible asking for some corrections.

thanks!
David
