Any model railroaders out there?
« on: January 26, 2015, 09:47:10 am »
Greetings:  My Dad has been a model railroad enthusiast all his life.  The whole family enjoyed it for years but when his children left home none of us wished to continue that hobby.  He will be 88 this year and his HO train layout has been idle for some time.  It has fallen to me to find a new owner.  It is a beautiful set-up.  Dad was an engineer/draftsman for more than 40 years and the track work is superb.  The layout is constructed of premium components and lumber, screwed together on several separate tables so that it can be disassembled and moved.  The main line is double track so the train must make two complete circuits before returning to the start.  There are mountains, streams, towns, mines, homes, businesses, sidings, a roundhouse with turntable and all the accouterments typical of a railroad modeled after the 1930 to 1960 era.  It is a walk-in "U" shaped arrangement with the panel in the middle of the whole thing.  He has many cars and engines, nearly all top quality, that will be sold separately.  I am looking for offers on the on the complete layout itself at this time.  There is a lot of money tied up in this package and someone can buy it for a fraction of that.  The new owner should plan on coming to Kalamazoo to take it apart and remove it.  That is the best way to see just how it will go back together again.  Like most train layouts, it was never really "completed" but it is functional and very beautiful the way it is.  If you have questions, please contact me.  jim.coash@gmail.com  Jim

We had American Flyer "S" gauge beginning in 1956 when my Dad built a layout in our basement.  In 1962 he passed that set on to my Uncle Chuck and his family, joined the model railroad club and started a new layout but this time in "HO" gauge.  It moved a few times with him and it was good that he built it on several tables that could be taken apart and moved in pieces that would fit up the stairs and into most cars.  Now he is about to be 88 years old and we need to find a new home for it.  He was an engineer for his entire working life so the track work is absolutely superb.  You can run a long train flat out around and around without any derailing.  The layout is compact in a "U" shape with the controls in the middle while being very complex with a double track mainline that changes levels, passes through small towns and factories, includes many switches, tunnels, water features and many model buildings and accessories including a roundhouse with turntable.  If someone wants it, they would need to pick it up here in SW Michigan.  The good news is that there must be $20K to $30K in value and pennies on the dollar would take it.  Anyone interested?  Jim
