5E3 cabinet

This is one of my custom built cabinets. They are made out off Cherrywood with Maple trim. The bent skin is about 3/16" thick. Each one takes about 30 hours to make.

Very nice!
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Very cool!  :occasion14:

Are you using steam while bending the wood "skin"?  It's multiple layers bent then glued together, isn't it?

Cheers,

We have proven once again no plan survives contact with the enemy, or in this case, with the amp.

No don't use steam, I do use heat , heat gun also have a heated mold takes about 45min to bend each curve. The core is made of 7 layers of 1/8" bending plywood. I did just build a steam box to try some bends on 3/8" wood. Also I spent countless hours on the mold went from 36 C-clamps to 12 pieces of all-tread.

So you are saying you build up the sides with 7 layers of bending plywood? Are those individual layers bent around a form like the sides of a guitar? How do you glue them together without voids and warbles in the plys? Dozens and dozens of clamps?

The mold  has a 9.5" metal band (kind of like a strap) that pulls everything tight around the mold, there is also some other cross clamps .  The cherry wood skin I clamp it the same way after the shell is made. One thing for sure you have to work fast once you start glueing. I think the next one I might glue up 3 plys then after thats dry glue up the other 4. then the skin. I Don't know when I'm going to build another one  but I'll take a bunch of pics.  I want to try and steam bend the wood  but I don't think I can bend it faster than it will cool.  The plywood pieces bend no problem  you can bend them by hand . The Skin I pre-bend before I glue it on.
