Bugera V22 combo for gutting/rebuild?
« on: May 28, 2015, 12:45:19 pm »
There is a used Bugera V22 on craigslist near me. Asking $200. Looking at some pictures it seems like this might be a good chassis, cabinets and halfway decent 18-Watt transformer set for a custom build.

What do you guys think? Worth $200 for that? The chassis, cabinet and power transformer would cost me more than that new. I consider output transformers from cheap production amps like this to be disposable and I have a good 18-Watt OT on-hand.

I'm thinking use the existing tube holes and just run long terminal strips on either side of them and do a point-to-point layout. Maybe do an AX84 October Club in there if I drill some holes for 6V6 sockets?

This google search has some good pics...  https://www.google.com/search?q=bugera+v22+schematic&espv=2&biw=1364&bih=950&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=Wk5nVfK2HcfgoAS1rIO4Cg&ved=0CB0QsAQ#

Ciao

............ missing link

If the cabibet / chassis are in good shape and transformers are good, It might be worth for a turret conversion

If you haven't it, here the schematic

Fixed in OP and also here...

Thanks!

Checked the sold listings in eBay... these regularly sell for $250 plus. Might be a good practice amp to keep around too!

Is it broken for that price? You'd buy it to tear apart a working amp?

I wouldn't hurt myself in a buying frenzy for it.

I see Peavey ValveKing 112 combos for $200 all the time (similar story, certainly a Chinese PC-board amp, but with 6L6 outputs, superior trannies, IMO, but a horrifically rotten speaker. Has reverb with a real 1/2 can. I am pretty happy with the one I bought.

And, it has become my main kick around amp, supplanting my SF DR hopped up w/6L6 power. Both amps have Altec 417-8H speakers. I don't strain it -- I use it mainly in my big band gig. I consider it an expendable amp.

Nope. Works fine.

Look at it this way... for $200 (or less, he's been trying to sell it for a month now) plus the cost of some pots, tube sockets, a couple of 6V6 tubes and other misc parts... I have a Vintage 30 lying around to put in it and a nice ClassicTone set of 18-Watt transformers... I have a very nice JTM/Plexi amp in a decent cabinet for what, $350-ish? Maybe a bit less?

I can definitely look at it that way, but if I was planning to gut it, my preference would be to buy a dead SS amp for $25 and start with that as the carcass. I'm totally supportive of that kind of effort.
