Thanks Greg, I was going in that direction as I do not have a spare triode to use.
If you have a schem to guide me would be great.
I have a ready made one on a tag strip that's ready to go. thanks

Here is an example from R.G. Keen that I have used in the past.

Hi guys, I have been able to fix a few problems, some of these were the old caps being a bit leaky and noisy.
Overall it sounds great with a slight hint of HISS and fizz.
This amp is very loud with "1" ok and "2" on the dial annoys the crap of the wife :dontknow:
I tried a master volume prior to the PI this helped greatly giving better control over the preamp volume.
I don't have room on the front panel to put another pot so I have chucked in a voltage divider to trial for the moment, I may replace this later and put a pot on the back panel.
With some of the problems sorted and another direction with the trem, I think I get a great sounding effect with the basic fender style circuit.

I also replaced the EF86 with a 5879 to see if there was any better performance, seems to be much the same.

Hi guys, I 've tried a few things to reduce some of the HUM/FIZZ.
I feel that it could be the doubler/rectifier.

At some stage you will need to bite the bullet and add some test tools for noise/hum chasing  :icon_biggrin:

Thanks Tim, HINT taken.
A final clean up of wires and looking good.
Thought I'd try a bit of old school lacing with wax string.  :icon_biggrin:

Did you try swapping out that 6V6?
I would guess you already tried that, but had to ask.
