B+ and screen wire layout?
« on: March 11, 2016, 04:34:17 pm »
Towards the end of the AB763 one-channel build. Want to run the wire going from the standby switch to the B+ cap along side the wire going from the screens on the power tubes to the cap for the screen supply. Is there a problem with running them together?

Thanks
Mike

I've never had a problem myself doing that...

Others will chime in, but you're describing raw, unfiltered "DC" from the standby switch running parallel with the leads to the power tube screens.  I would avoid it, but if it works for Mike it should work for you. Can you run the standby switch lead back to the end of the chassis and around?  Any pics of your layout?

It took me a long time (and several builds) to realize that we have 3 dimensions to work with.  180 degree crosses are fine.  Running parallel isn't.  Also, laying high voltage/current leads like plate supplies on the chassis leaves room above for sensitive low voltage like preamp tube control grids.

Respectfully,
Chip

P.S.  Mike responded as I was about to hit "Post"

We have proven once again no plan survives contact with the enemy, or in this case, with the amp.

That's fine. Just don't run that dirty B+ wire from the STBY switch or screens near the sensitive input jacks or preamp stuff.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thank you for the responses. Simplifies the layout. Will send a picture once the boards are installed.

Thanks
Mike
