Increasing Capacitor uf Capacity
« on: August 15, 2016, 08:46:37 pm »
I have (2) new 2600uf 75 volt cap can screw terminal capacitors. The amp originally calls for 3000uf 75 volt. I could only and luckily find 2600uf  cap cans and want to increase the uf value 400uf more giving me 3000uf. Need to confirm that i can put a single 400uf 75 volt cap in paralell giving me a total of 3000uf 75 volt keeping polarity + - in mind per cap. As shown in pic. Wont change the voltage rating. Just increasing the uf storage. I got lucky and a dealer sold me 2 of these caps instead of the minimum purchase quantity of 50.

Completely NA and gone 3000uf 75 volt surge 95 volt screw terminal 1.750 diameter 0.75 terminal spacing caps.
Need your confirmation. Pic below is what i am thinking.

Works for me. Just be sure to connect positive to positive, etc.

However, I'm pretty sure that 2600 will do the job just fine by itself. Something to consider especially if space is premium.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Thanks Steve. Going in a Lab L7. Plenty of room under the hood. Man it took me 2 months to find any screw terminal cap close enough in uf value with the right terminal spacing and diameter to call it good enough.
The real problem was getting them to sell me only (2) of them.  A place in New Jersey had 7 in stock so i figured they must sell them separately. Shear luck. 50 caps was well over $1,000.00. These were 25.69.each.

I have a Marantz 2285B that the main PS caps are toast (Black Caps Below) and need replacing. I have to use (4) 6800uf / 63 volt radial caps configured to match the original 2" diameter 6800UF caps in that unit. Thats 85 watts per channel Hi-Fi to replace my dying 28 watt per channel Nikko 6065

Waiting on the other (2) 6800uf 63 volt radials to arrive.

Consider also that electrolytic caps has a very large % of tollerance in value
