Hey Plate, I fixed that tonestack for you. It should work properly now.  :icon_biggrin:
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

Yeah, that's so much better but now I've got to modify my input jack to be my speaker jack :dontknow:

While we are having a real serious discussion:>} of the tone stack, what would happen to it's operation if I disconnected the NFB from V1b back to tone stack and deactivated it, would it become a James?? Platefire

Disconnecting that feedback wire will not make it a James stack. There are a few more differences. But why don't you disconnect it and tell us what you think.

And what about that Plexi???

This is a passive Baxandall

and this is a James (don't consider the shift, it isn't on the original James)

As you can see very similar but not the same

Thanks Kaglisstro for the pixs again. I built A Baxandall or a James on one of the first builds/conversion I did to a General Electric PA-20 Hi Fi amp tha I still have. I'm almost sure it is probably wired incorrectly one way or the other but works pretty well. I've always thought I would go back and check it and make corrections but never have. I played over the amp a long time and it sounded really good back then.

sluckey--on the Plexi, this Kalart Victor is like a rabbit that ran across my path and I chased it>>>>>>>have you ever chased rabbits??? Anyway the Kalart is set up as a practice amp in my living room where I can bug my wife while she attempts to watch TV. I will probably just play it a while until I figure out what to do with it. The clean sound is extraordinary like a 15 watt twin all the way up to 100% if you can stand the hum. I will probably want to do something with it eventually but as you say, I need to finish the Plexi. I may startback  tonight! Platefire

Disconnect the NFB from plate. You get a high gain stage with very little tone control. (Signal still has to flow in the left side of the network, but with no NFB and little grid load it almost-all gets through.)

You do NOT want to "change to James" unless you can trade that dual-Linear pot for a dual-Audio taper pot (which is very unlikely), or want to start banging more holes in the face. I suppose if you really want to scrape salvage and re-build to a "normal" chassis, that will come naturally.

I certainly have. That's how I met my wife Alice!

I get it. But I'll be 67 in a couple years. Time's gettin' shorter. And I do want to see that Plexi!

PRR----That's what I would hope you would say about gain stage. If it is
A usable good sound, I was thinking putting that NFB leg on a switchable
Pot that would make that gain stage completely defeatable with the switch
And the gain adjustable with the pot. So I defiantly don't want to do away
With the clean tone of this amp, a defeatable mod wouldn't effect that.

sluckey-----well your rabbit running paid off! I will be 69 soon :help:
Next year Connie and I will celebrate 50 years of marriage. Plexi, guess
I need to switch rabbits :happy1:

You must have been high school sweethearts! Very special and rare for a teenage marriage to last that long. Congratulations!

Carol and I celebrated 40 years yesterday.

Hay thanks, yes we were dating in high school. Graduated in 1965 and married in 1966. We didn't go to the same school though, she was 11 miles away in the next town. I tell you sluckey, you and I are rare birds because not many remain married that long anymore. Congratulations to you and Carol.

Kagliostro---you must have a good rabbit gun =====o pow!

BTW----here is a schematic with the thought in mind, if I disconnect the NFB to the Baxandall as a way to add some gain and it sounds OK with that and I want to pursue it further, I was thinking of a way to switch it from normal operation to a pot where you could adjust the amount of NFB/gain. Does this look like it would work---not sure what the value of the pot should be?  Also if you used a Center Off DPDT, Center off would be no NFB, the pot setting would be adjustable and the jumper would be normal clean operation.

If I've understand what you mean I think it can be done also this way

(however I don't know if you'll reach the desired effect with a pot in that position, may be it will do ........)

Since we been talking Baxandall/James tone stacks, just for grins here is my first amp conversion in 2001 of a General Electric PA-20 Hi-FI Amp. Looking at my file folder notes GroundhogKen
and Brad S. Bryant were helping me off the Hoffman Forum. This was
my first Baxandall type tone stack. The first schematic shows actual
Built values, the second shows more the complete preamp with yet incomplete
Baxandall values. This amp turned out great in spite of my inexperience, so
I wouldn't even consider changing a thing on it other than replacing existing
components that go bad. I have to give credit where credit is due for the good
help I got off the Hoffman Forum. Platefire

BTW-the tubes are 1-6SC7, 2-12AX7's, 2-6L6GC's and 5Y3. Got it for $20 at
a pawn shop.

Well today 08 Oct 16 was 50th Anniversary day. The wife and I were going out on the town and while she was getting ready I did a quick and dirty blues jam video/sound clip. I'm not proud of it but since it exist thought I would post it of the Kalart Victor. I'm still jamming on it, love the clean tone. Needs filter caps, you can hear it buzzing before I start play.
