Recommendations for a EL84 based amp build
« on: September 26, 2016, 10:36:15 am »
Hi guys,

The Hoffman AB763 amp I have finished went well. I now would like to build a EL84 based amp.

What I really wanted was to build a turret board style amp like a Zinky Blue Velvet. I have never been able to find a schematic of that amp. I guess I could call Bruce Zinky to see if one exist. I am not sure what he would have to say. I use to have one but I never took it apart.

Has anyone here ever played a Blue Velvet and if so can you recommend something similar?

Thanks,

Billy

Never played a blue velvet amp.

Are they single ended or push-pull?

I really suspect that is a Hi-Fi line amp, not a geetar amp fragment.

"Blue Velvet" can mean different things to different people.

Hi,

Bruce Zinky was a designer working for Fender who designed the Prosonic as a custom shop project. He is now the owner or part owner of the Supro line of amps.

I have read that the  new Supro Dual Tone is the same as a Blue Velvet but I am sure that is not true. A Blue Velvet has tube reverb and the new Supro does not. The Blue Velvet uses two EL84 tubes and the Supro uses 6973 tubes.

I have ask a lot of people about a schematic and done a good bit of searching with no results. I also have not seen any of the new Supro schematics.

I may not find a schematic but I can buy the amp used for around $800....pretty pricey way to get a schematic....lol

Cheers,

Billy

It's not the new 1624T dual-tone which I think is a reissue of an old supro. But I believe those Blue velvets were made under supro name for a while:
