PT Secondary @ 3A suitable for 5Y3? Deluxe Lite
« on: February 01, 2017, 02:00:32 pm »
Hi, so I have ordered a replacement PT for my Deluxe Lite. Went with a ClassicTone tranny. 330-0-330 @120ma, 6.3V/5V @3A. Like a lot of my decisions I rushed putting in the order without taking my time and adequately assessing my options.

With a similar PT, I was getting around 470VDC plate voltage with SS rectifier. I really am trying to get this lowered to around 410-420 if possible. I have a 5Y3 on hand but realize it has 2A filament. Is this not a good idea? Should I suck it up and order a 5U4?

I've tried to do some reading to find an answer to this... I see a lot of Deluxe Reverbs running 5Y3 so I am assuming that since the tube draws 2A and the PT can put out up to 3A, then that is fine. If it was reversed (tube draws 3A, but PT can only provide 2A) then it would stress and possible overheat the PT?

That's correct.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!

The Transformer has separated 6.3v and 5v windings or one 6.3v winding with 5v tap ?
