signal generators

Well I had 2 older ones I pickup at yard sales thought I could fix and use them . I think they just sat to many years. So now I have that brand new o scope and no signal generator any suggestions . Thanks in advance.

For guitar amp work, if you've got a smart phone, just download a function generator app.  It doesn't do tons, but it's enough to get a mini to 1/4" adapter on a cable and plug it in and adjust the phone volume on a sine wave to see how much the input is and how each stage is magnifying it etc.

I've used my phone for some time.

Still i find a dedicated unit better. Voltage control is nice. I usually use less than 1 volt, actually 180ma and sometimes even less. It gives me a better idea of how touch sensitive the amp is. The lowest output pup i have measured is 93ma which was an old strat neck pup.

my note pad sound card does good until you get <~80hz, then you have to tweak back up to keep signal constant.

Haha! I know right?  I know a lot of DIY pedal builders use them quite a bit for troubleshooting etc, seemed like it would work for a guitar amp too!  I've just been looping something into my old DD-3 and then playing that into the input for a signal for my amp/pedal troubleshooting.

you could install that in a $20 Bud/Hammond enclosure. a rotary switch does away with the jumper block, mount the pots on enclosure front panel extending them to the PCB with wires, do the same with the output jacks and power jack.

Yeah man. I ordered a $4 lm317 voltage regulator setup and did that.  It's pedal power on demand up to 20V. Love it.
