I have only come here seeking knowledge~the things they would not teach me in college...not the one I went to anyway! I figure you're all a bunch of guitar nuts like me, but unlike some of you I purposely avoided tube amps for 30 years mainly because the guys wanting to sell me tube amps could never really bring across any good reasons to spend money I did not have and as it turns out most of them were full of B.S. with one or two exceptions. My first great guitar was a 1986 Charvel Model 6--bought it used at the age of 14 and 30 years later I still have it and it really does play like a dream. I never needed or wanted another electric for many years and wound up playing acoustic guitar practically by default...I always appreciated great tone and never cared to try and make a silk purse out of a sow's ear so I had several crappy S.S. amps and never fooled around with effects much. It seemed like everyone was hiding behind their 'special effects' and so I played a Takamine EF360s (like an idiot I sold it), spent my last 1000 dollars on a 1970 D-18 (totally awesome, impervious to atmospheric changes (lost it it 'the shuffle'~a.k.a. the pawnshop, and had numerous other sweet acoustics through the years. Got a divorce a few years ago and bought a new D-18 that never really resonated with me which I traded for the best one yet, a Taylor 514ce--what great dynamic range!!! Being a long time fan of pre-Leo G&L guitars I finally spent my other last thousand bucks on an '89 ASAT that completely blows my mind...I'm currently playing it through a Del-Ray 5watt amp (0ne of 25 made) By good 'ol Uncle Albert (local Indy legend for those in the know) and now I'm here, learning how to make my 'new' Carvin 3212 combo sound the way a tube amp should! Thanks for your help on this one Pete--I'll probably have more questions like any 'nube would!
P.S. like it or not I'm an absolute Grateful Dead fanatic, and enjoy almost all genres of music played by real people on real instruments! Peace to all, and Thanks for having me~I need all the help I can get!
