1955 Gretsch Convertible Volume Control conundrum

Why would Gretsch be putting this 47K resistor (in what looks like parallel) on the 1 meg volume pot right after the Dearmond pickup?

Between the ugly solder job and the non stock zip ties that could be a bad aftermarket mod.
I had an old Jetstar with DeArmond 's and it had 500K pots with no added resisters.

Just checked, zip ties weren't even invented until 1958!

well the original big fat coax had lost it's plastic on the inner wire and was shorting so I deep-sixed it. the stuff I had was smaller so I used the zip ties to hold the coax (previously it was just that the coax was fat and the shield held it.)
None of this stuff is seen so the originality doesn't matter.


that is the only aspect that is non-original

The resistor is original as is the manky old paper cap(which i will also be deep-sixing). I know as I've seen another one of these units


Most, if not ALL, 50s gretsch's with Dearmonds had 1 meg pots I believe
