5e3 build
« on: October 08, 2017, 01:56:02 am »
It took a good chunk of the afternoon but I finally got my 5e3 board wired up. Eyelets are interesting, I'll say that much. A lot of the solder joints aren't perfect but the mechanical connection is there and I got good flow to the back with a decent solder fillet. Going to call it a night- the next step is to mount it into the chassis, but I cannot finish the amp just yet as one of the tube sockets broke (my fault) and I have to wait for the replacement to arrive. Thanks for all who helped me sort out the mounting hole questions I had.

Looks nice, I'm building a 5E3 variant, the Dumble Tweedle Dee Deluxe right now, hope we both get some outstanding tone!

I've got a 5E3 build happening now as well.  Board is built and wired, chassis is complete with all wiring.  Just waiting on the output transformer to arrive and then it and the board can go in.

I looked up that Dumble version recently.  Interesting tweaks on that one.  Looks like feedback and balancing stuff around the PI mostly.  Would be interesting to know what kind of difference that makes.

Good luck to you both.

Thanks, and same to the both of you as well. It's been a fun journey so far. I cannot wait to fire it up. Will update when I do.

The little electrolytic capacitor next to the 250 ohm 5 watt resistor is in danger of getting cooked unless there is more space between them than there appears to be in that photo..

This is the best picture I have of it. I made sure to put an air gap between the capacitor and the 5 watt resistor. Same goes for the 3 watt bleeder resistor. It does not touch any other components for that exact reason. Thank you for the heads up, though.

Great looking board. I have a 5e3 project going right now too. https://www.facebook.com/rcampco/photos/a.254988608296584.1073741831.253171005145011/344019956060115/?type=3&theater
