Advice regarding choke replacements in Twin Reverb
« on: October 12, 2017, 12:51:13 pm »
I happened to come in to possession of 4 different vintage chokes, all roughly rated the same as what a Fender Twin uses, and it just so happens that I have a Fender Twin Reverb 65' Reissue that I wouldn't mind using as a test-bed to see how different chokes affect the behavior or sound of the amp.

I will admit that I'm quite a novice in these matters and reading up on how to calculate chokes makes my head spin so I'm wondering if you guys could help me out:
Would the following 4 chokes require any obvious modification of the circuit in order for me to be able to use them in a stock 65' TRRI or could they (theoretically atleast) be safely be dropped straight in as replacements with no modifications?
Here is a link to the schematic: http://www.thetubestore.com/lib/thetubestore/schematics/Fender/Fender-65-Twin-Reverb-Reissue-Schematic.pdf

Choke 1
L=2.3 henries
R=60 ohms
I=150 mA

Choke 2
L=3.5 henries
R=60 ohms
I=150 mA

Choke 3
L=5 henries
R=130 ohms
I=200 mA

Choke 4
L=6 henries
R=110 ohms
I=200 mA

Just for clarification: Yes, I realize they probably won't much affect the sound much but since I have them and I'm a tinkerer by heart, I'm just curious to see if they would really affect the sound or feel of the amp to any obvious degree.

You can safely put any of those chokes in the TRRI.
A schematic, layout, and hi-rez pics are very useful for troubleshooting your amp. Don't wait to be asked. JUST DO IT!
