Strat without a cavity for string changes
« on: January 01, 2019, 03:57:39 pm »
My son-in-law found a USA made strat at the goodwill, "free".  A lady was bringing the guitar in a case to the Goodwill, she said they were cleaning out the attic and thought maybe someone would want it. She said it was bought for her son who never really played it and had been in the attic since the 80's.  Says made in USA on headstock but no cavity route on the back, all solid wood...? I removed the pickguard to find the springs under the pickguard, never seen this before. Can anyone tell me what I have?

Looks like it might be one like this?

The "Standard Stratocaster" made from 1983 to 1985.

Thanks, looks like we have a Dan Smith model but not the actual Dan Smith strat as that strat was only made from 1981 to 1983 with the special X1 bridge pick/up. When CBS sold Fender I believe in 1984, the new company made this mode one more year, till 1984 this is what I have. It does not have the X1 pick/up which I hear was junk.

For a Goodwill find for free, can't complain. The rosewood neck is 12* radius, feels and plays great, the bridge setup stinks, IMO.
